In the Felaryan jungle, a dridder worked efficiently at her craft. Rapidly, and without a hitch, a sturdy net of webbing was being configured. Continuing her work with one hand, the slender beauty extracted a human-sized fairy from the webbing satchel she had stuck to her wall and slipped it halfway into her mouth. She wasn't going to eat it, she just liked the squirming and flavour.
At the moment, she was naked aside from web-wrapped breasts, but that was only so nothing she was spinning could stick to her clothes. Behind her lay a silk robe she had carefully treated with fruit juice to give a camoflage pattern on the inside and a smooth, luxurious purple on the outside. She had crafted it herself, of course.
The wriggling fairy attempted to speak to the dridder as her tongue slid along its body. She quickly reached a suitable resting point and pulled the fairy into her palm. "What do you want?" she asked boredly.
"Please," the saliva-soaked creature gasped, "please let us go...if you aren't going to eat us, what ARE you going to do?"
The dridder rolled her lavender eyes. "Haven't you been paying attention?" she asked snarkily, "I have been snapping off your wings for the magic in them. You just also happen to taste nice."
The fairy skittered back, bumping into the dridder's fingers. "What do you need our magic for!?" she squeaked.
"For something to DO!" her captor snapped, "I am so sick of just finding food, then going to sleep every day! I am learning how to refine your magic, and when I finish, I can do something worthwhile for a change. Until then, I require a steady supply to experiment with."
"B...but-"
"No buts. Besides, I have not harmed you. Your wings do not contain nerve endings. Now will you comply, or should I eat you?"
The fairy began fidgeting. "Um...Miss...what's your name?"
It occurred to the dridder that she had never even bothered to address her captives. Of course, she was aware of it, and this was because they were usually too slow to keep up with her, but she might have been acting a bit too antisocial. She'd need some more ability in that field in order to manipulate others. "Desdemona Min Mahiro," she replied coolly, "and incase you are wondering, my spider component is that of a Portia. Anything else?"
"Wh...what if...I mean...you've kept most of us for about a week, right?"
"For three sets of wings each, yes."
"...what if you let us go after this long?"
"Then I would have to capture more."
By now, the fairy had at least a feeble grasp of how Desdemona thought. "Then...you could challenge yourself? I mean, we're not that-"
"Easy to catch. Yes, you are. Even the most allegedly clever of you fairies has been exceedingly easy to outwit, even by simple methods. You are all just too slow for me."
Her eyes lit up. "Then catching more shouldn't be a problem! You can let us go and get fresh ones easily!"
Desi wrapped her fingers around her prisoner and brought her up to her mouth. "I would only need to catch fresh ones if some of you disappeared..." she murmured with a lick of her lips.
Now fearful, the fairy squealed. "P...please don't eat me, Miss Mahiro! I'm sorry! We just want to go hooome!"
Desdemonda slid her tongue along the quivering girl's cheek, then placed her on the propped-up flat rock she had made her worktable. "Fine. You get to keep your next set of wings. I may be bored, but at least you fairies get your fun..."
Still shaking, the fairy sighed. "Thank you, Miss-"
"But you have to come back."
"...eh?"
"I could use bait that is actively assisting me. You have to come back to me every two days unless I say otherwise. Try to run, and I will recapture and consume you," she elaborated, "do we have a deal?"
Fearful of the creature towering over her, the fairy was hesitant to agree. She noticed that some other captives were watching from their cells. "...only me?"
"You are the only one I like so far. Do we have a deal, or shall I put you back?"
"Oh...I don't want to go back in that little bag..."
"I meant back in my mouth."
The fairy jumped. "Eek! Okay, yes, I'll come back, I'll be good!"
"...fine. By tomorrow, you should all have your wings back. Then I shall let everyone else go. I have an idea for you already."
"M...M-"
"And call me Desi. I doubt anyone can even pronounce my full name without practice, anyway."
"O...okay..."
Desi quickly lifted the fairy back up to her mouth. "By the way, I still reserve the right to taste you."
Before any protests could be made, the fairy was shoved back to square 1, already fearing for her future.

As promised, all of the others were released the next day. Then half of them were re-released in the evening, though Desi considered keeping them.
The Portia's new assistant sat on her shoulder, both excited to be outside again and afraid of her new commander. While her iron-fistedness from last night seemed to have dissipated, she was still undeniably lethal.
As the fairy gazed up, she studied Desi's bangs and flowing white hair. Although she wondered if her hair was normally white, as the roots were either darker or just immersed in shadow...and there was something behind her bangs...
"So, my new minion," the Portia spoke, turning to her, "what shall I call you?"
Though it was hard to tell, the fairy got the impression that the dridder was greatly enjoying her new position. Probably because it defied the monotony she was used to. "...S...Sayen..."
"Hmm...what a nice little name. Did you come up with it yourself?"
"No...my parents gave it to me..."
Desdemona studied the girl hugging herself on her shoulder. She had shoulder-length sand-coloured hair and dark blue eyes, although something felt...sealed about her. That might have been why she seemed more interesting than the others.
She stood at around 5'4", or so she estimated. That girl rarely stood, and was a bit difficult to see in her current location. Desi found this odd from someone who doesn't even bother wearing clothes, and while on the subject noticed that her chest was a modest D-cup, slightly surpassing her own, proportionally. While they were nice to press against with her tongue, on a minion they sort of irritated her, for a myriad of deep psychological reasons she made an effort not to ponder.
"Your wings are working, yes?"
Sayen nodded, avoiding eye contact.
"Good. Your first job is to find me dinner. Fly out and find something small enough to swallow whole a within walking distance of here."
While she didn't waste a second in fleeing, the fairy wondered why she was only looking for things small enough to swallow whole. Her new commander didn't seem like one to mind bloodshed, and spiders were notorious for digesting their prey's organs first, anyway...now slightly queasy, she dropped the question and looked harder.
Sure enough, a lone human had set up a crude camp nearby. Actually, he was a rather attractive, rational-seeming young man, which evoked a bit of drool in the corner of his stalker's mouth. Sayen was temped to simply grab him, but something told her that would be unfavorable. Besides, she was on a diet, and many humans were someone's friend, even if this one most likely wasn't. She flitted back to Desdemona's lair.
It was an interesting domain, really. Some building must have crumbled nearby, as the majority of it was composed of stone walls. Desi must have gotten an idea of how they pieced together, then put her webbing to work in order to bring it all together. The end result was an extremely durable-looking ball that resembled a castle mid-implosion. She had created her own cave and made it better than the standard model.
"Miss...ah, Desi! I found a human! He's all alone and doesn't look like he knows anything about this place!" she blurted upon entry.
The dridder looked up from her task of crushing some fairy wings with a homemade mortar and pestle. "Excellent. He should be fine. Just show me to him and you may return to your parents."
Sayen shuffled her foot on the air below her as a blush tinted her face. "Actually...I don't have parents anymore. They sort of passed me off to a group of fairies my own age, then went away..."
"Whatever happened to my parents, I am thankful that I avoided such an unpleasant experience..."
The fairy led her outside. "It wasn't that bad. We were like sisters..."
"You alone annoy me. Did you recognize that magic was actually a type of energy that seems to be continually radiating from the ground here?"
Her answer came in the form of a blank stare. "Isn't energy, like, why you eat? So you have it?"
Desi sighed and wondered if her parents had to put up with this. Then she considered that sexual contact in Felarya was much more erratic than it seemed to be in the worlds humans came from, and that her parents could potentially be two females of a different spider-species, rendering them of average intellect and so socially capable. It would really be nice to at least know what they were. Perhaps she would try mating someday to further her research.
"Here he is," Sayen whispered excitedly, "I found him! Oh, he looks so tasty...are you going to prepare him at all?"
"No."
"Oh, so you're just going to snatch him up."
"No."
"...then what are you going to do?"
"Observe. Something you'd be better at if you were silent."
Observe? Not quite understanding, the fairy alighted on her leader's shoulder and watched the boy...and watched.
With unyeilding patience, the dridder examined every behavioural trait her target displayed. She even flicked a few balls of webbing into some nearby foliage to startle him on occasion. All this for one human?
"Um...Desi? Aren't you hun-"
"Shh. He is almost there."
"Almost...where?"
"I have been directing him this past half hour with his own fear. Once I learned that he retreats from a medium-sized disturbence, altering his course became simple. Now that he is upwind from a Drakewillow Nexolt, he will soon be upon a helping of dragonapples. What he doesn't take, you may have, and I will devour the Nexolt.
She had it all planned out. Sayen was impressed. Like all of her friends, she had never considered using a human as bait. "What happens to him then?" she queried.
"Hmm...I noticed that he does have a rather appetizing scent. On his own, he is unlikely to last for very long. After I've had my meal, I will note his direction and go to where he is most likely to set up camp in the morning. As long as I keep him around here, I can manipulate the local animals into my grasp."
"But...how do you know nothing will eat him during the night?"
"Because I can leave my scent in patches of webbing. Anything behaving instinctively will avoid the area out of fear, and I have yet to meet a sentient nocturnal predator in this area."
She had one question left. "Um..."
"Yes?"
"When you're...done with him...you know, if he's going to leave the area or something...?"
"You may have him to yourself. Though you would have to live with the guilt of departing from your diet if you ingested him."
"Well, yea...how did you know I was on a diet!?"
"Your behaviour demonstrates an anxiety which shows that this one particular human is highly coveted. The only reasons for this would be if you had some sort of romantic feelings for him, which I doubt you would develop in the time you've been searching..."
"...or that I really wany to eat him...yeah..."
"Additionally, you unconsciously licked your lips. Do you see why I don't usually talk to others? You're already open books to me."
Sayen shivered. This was going to be a scary servitude.
Yes, it's another Felarya story. Haven't done one in a while, but this character's rather important...Sayen just sort of worked her own way in.
As Cracked readers know, Portia spiders are hardcore. They study other spiders for days and come up with some unique and ingenious way to capture them. While Desi doesn't hunt other preds (she likes food she can swallow whole, even if it's a bit tight), she's proportionally as smart as one.
In other words, she's a genius, which makes everyone around her a food-obsessed idiot. A zombie.

Notice how she handles her issues differently from dear Simon?

It's starting really nicely !
You painted an interesting character here. I like this mix of coldness and curiousness :)
